Memebox April Showers Skincare Set

I couldn't resist this skincare set from Memebox so I jumped on the chance to purchase it. It's a good thing I did because it's now sold out on the site. The set came with four products for $30 with a value of $55.50.

Freeset Donkey Milk Skin Gel Mask Whitening

Product Description
Donkey milk is the newest Korean beauty secret "it" item. It contains an ample amount of Vitamins B3, B5, B6, C, E and bio-polymers to moisturize and create a complexion that glows. Intensely hydrate your skin with this mask and leave your skin looking translucent, milky, and luminous.

I love the donkey head on the top right side of the of the packaging, so cute! Packaging aside, it's a little hard to tell the whitening benefits of this mask after one use but I'm looking forward to seeing if it makes a slight difference. This is my first skincare product made with donkey milk although I have a hand cream from a previous Memebox box made with goat milk that I love. Legend has it that Cleopatra used a Donkey Milk bath to beautify and preserve her skin to make it look young and radiant for years. Donkey milk, goat milk, snail mucus, bee venom...I'll use anything that will help my skin.

Secret Key Snow White Milky Lotion (120g)

Product Description
This lotion is enriched with organic whitening ingredients that gives an instant glow onto the skin upon application. Aside from the instant whitening effect this moisturizing lotion gives, it also helps lighten blemishes over time.

I have been curious about Secret Key products for awhile now so I'm happy to see this in the set. The texture and consistency seems similar to sunscreen. It looks quite thick out of the tube but blends in effortlessly and doesn't feel heavy or greasy.

I kid you not, my hand looks one shade lighter after rubbing this in. I'm not crazy about the baby powder scent but willing to overlook the smell for product effectiveness. This contains niacinamide which has anti-inflammatory properties making it effective for treating acne. AND anything claiming to help with lightening blemishes is something I need and should try.

It's Skin Collagen Voluming Toner (150mL)

Product Description
Replenish moisture and transform rough, dry skin to replenish moisture and increase your skin's elasticity. Formulated with collagen extract to keep your skin looking energetic, healthy, and firm.

I love toners but, sadly, I'll have to give this away. The third ingredient in this toner is alcohol denat. Most of you know by now that I'm prone to cystic acne, my worst enemy, so I don't want to take any chances on products that could irritate my acne. Alcohol is widely used in acne treatments but it also stimulates sebum production, aggravates acne, and can irritate and dry out skin. To prevent people from drinking cosmetics products a chemical is added to the alcohol to make the product taste unpleasant. That unpleasant alcohol is called SD alcohol or alcohol denat (alcohol denatured). Other names you might see in the ingredients list are ethanol, ethyl alcohol, methanol, benzyl alcohol, and isopropyl alcohol. I try to avoid these like the plague, especially if the names show up high on the products list of ingredients.
There are some types of alcohol which don't or hardly irritate the skin like cetyl alcohol, ceteary alcohol, myristyl alcohol and behenyl alcohol. These "fatty" alcohols just retain moisture in the skin and you don't need to avoid them. I veered a little off course but that's my little spiel about products with alcohol in it.

Holika Holika Soda Pore Cleansing O2 Bubble Mask (100mL)

Product Description
Formulated with harrogate carbonated water 10,000 ppm to enrich the skin with nutritious minerals. The baking powder, tea tree, and gold kiwi controls sebum, pores, and removes dead skin cells revealing brighter, smoother, and healthier skin.

How to use.
Take a proper amount and using dry hands apply thinly all over the face.  Wet hands and massage for 2 minutes in circular up and outward motions and watch bubbles form.  Rinse off with lukewarm water.

Holika Holika has a line of soda pore cleansing products (a cleansing oil, cleansing soda water, and cleansing cream) and this mask is one of them. This sounds interesting and something I'll add into my rotation of weekly masks. Here are the benefits of some of the ingredients:
Harrogate water-Helps with skin issues like inflamed skin, acne, and acne scars.
Baking powder-Lessens irritation from inflammation due to its antiseptic properties and exfoliates.
Tea tree-Natural alternative for getting rid of acne with disinfecting and soothing properties.
Gold kiwi-Sebum and pore control and provides smooth and bright skin.

I paid $22.50 for the set with a coupon code and a few points and will use 3 out of 4 of the products, everything except for the toner. All in all, I'm happy to have purchased this skincare set.
