This retails for $54 at Rodan + Fields. I received the lip serum from a family member so I did not purchase this.

About the Brand
The first thing I think about when I hear Rodan + Fields is Proactiv but I came across some interesting tidbits about the company, founded in 2002 by Stanford trained dermatologists. (They developed Proactiv in 1995) The company is a San Francisco, CA based skincare cosmetics company that sells skincare regimens and tools designed to prevent and combat the signs of aging. In order to expand their sales reach, Dr. Rodan and Dr. Fields sold the company in 2003 to Estee Lauder. Then in 2008, the company's chairman negotiated the buyback of the company from Estee Lauder. In an unusual move, Rodan + Fields became the first prestige skincare line to leave a department store for the world of direct selling through independent business owners, called consultants.

My Thoughts
I was excited to try out these little capsules because I have noticed more lines appearing on my lips as I age. Luckily I haven't seen any thinning of the lips yet but preventative care is always good. You can twist open the tip of the capsule or snip it off with scissors to squeeze the serum out. I followed the instructions and would apply this in the evenings. Most of the time I would exfoliate before applying to the lips but it's not the end of the world if you forget. Exfoliating your lips will give it a smooth canvas and allow the serum to properly sink in.
I was surprised by how much product is in each capsule, more than enough for those with full, plump lips. The texture of the serum is thick, gooey, and just a little sticky. If you don't know already, Aquaphor is a must have winter staple for me. This serum is Aquaphor times three or four. It's extremely moisturizing and takes an hour or two to really absorb into the lips. This is the reason why I apply the serum in the evenings rather than right before bedtime. I didn't want the product smearing all over the pillow and on my face. In the mornings, I would wake up with soft, moist, and very smooth lips.

Final Thoughts
I have been using the serum for a little over three weeks. Since using this, I have seen visible improvement with the lines on my lips and easier, smoother application of lipstick. One thing to note...in the first week, I noticed some breaking out around the mouth area. Thankfully it wasn't cystic acne but little bumps did appear. I usually don't break out in that area and the only thing I could attribute it to was the serum. Probably some smearing occurs within the first hour of applying to the lips so make sure to be careful about placing the serum within the lip area. After the first week the bumps disappeared and there was no more breaking out.
With that said, I really do like this product and will continue using all sixty capsules. I do think it's a tad bit expensive at $54 and lip care isn't as much of a priority as something like eye care for most women. If you have the budget and are concerned about the condition of your lips, I would recommend this. If you're in your 20's to early 30's, you can pass and spend the money on something else. Using the lip serum has made me more curious about other products in the Rodan + Fields line and it's nice to see a company that supports female entrepreneurs.

Thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer
