E.L.F. Mad For Matte Eyeshadow Palette Review

E.L.F. has been releasing quite a few interesting palettes recently and I couldn't resist ordering the Matte Palette during their free shipping promotion.

Product Description
Achieve both beautifully bold or subtle everyday eye looks with these perfectly curated 10 matte eyeshadow shades. This collection of hues is ideal for shading, highlighting, and defining the eyes. The satin matte shadows can be used as a liner, on the lid, and in the crease of the eye for an expertly contoured and blended look.

Price
This is on the higher end for an e.l.f. product at $10 but you do get 10 shadows in the palette.

Ingredients
Talc, Mica, Silica, Magnesium Stearate, Nylon-12, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol. May Contain:Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), Red 40 Lake (CI 16035), Ultramarines (CI 77007)

Packaging
The packaging is similar to all e.l.f. Studio line products with the black signature look. This is the first eyeshadow palette I've purchased from the brand so I was surprised by how compact the palette is. It's around 6 x 2 inches making it a very travel friendly product. There is a nice sized mirror included but no applicator.

Texture
At first I was a little disappointed when swatching the shadows because they were a bit powdery and not as pigmented as I'd have liked. Once you get past the initial layer and the palette's been used a few times, the color payoff is much better. The formula isn't soft but it's not overly powdery or dry, somewhere in the middle.

My Thoughts
These are described as satin matte shadows but they come off as mostly matte for me. The palette includes a good range of neutrals going from a few light highlight shades to some mid tones with brown, a rusty warm brown shade into cooler browns, a deep eggplant type color, to a grey, and then a charcoal shade. It's a little odd the way e.l.f. didn't arrange the shades from light to dark but it doesn't affect anything. As with most palettes, some shades are more pigmented than others, like the darker browns, grey, and charcoal. The first two lighter shades were quite difficult to swatch but do apply slightly better to the eyes. The shadows take a little work to blend but will blend well with some patience. I did experience some fallout with the shadows. I would recommend using a primer with these shadows to increase pigmentation and the wear time. The wear time, with primer, for me is around 6 hours.

Final Thoughts
The shadows aren't the best quality but it's a decent palette for only $10. The range of colors are quite nice since you can create everyday looks along with a smokey eye. This would be great for someone who needs something compact to carry around with them and apply makeup on the go, someone who is on a budget, or someone who is just starting out in the makeup world.
