Son & Park Lip Crayon Review

Son & Park is a brand created by two popular Korean celebrity makeup artists, Son Dae Sik and Park Dae Yun. They serve as exclusive makeup artists for many famous Korean actors and actresses. Son is the official makeup artist for Jun Ji Hyun. (Her breakout film was My Sassy Girl in 2001 which was a huge hit in Korea and throughout Asia. If you haven't watched it, you need to! After wearing YSL Rouge Pur Couture No 52 in My Love From The Star, the lipstick sold out worldwide.)
Back to Son & Park, the two have been friends since high school and known for bringing the natural dewy look to life.  Dewy, glowing skin has been a trend with Korean women for quite some time now. They developed the technique with their own hands and it became their signature at editorial shoots and fashion shows. Their logo is a hand with the cursive letters S and P.

HOW TO USE
Use as a moisturizing lip tint throughout the day, simply swipe the product over your lips.  Apply a few extra layers for stronger pigmentation or apply a lip stick over to amp up the color even more.

PRICE
I purchased shades 06 and 07 from Memebox for $5 each with a discount code and points. They're priced at $10 each. Unfortunately there are no other additional shades sold on the site. Other places you can find the lip crayons are Soko Glam for $23 each (you can find 5 shades) or Korea Depart for $13.48 (9 shades sold). The lip crayons are sold for 18,000 won at the Son & Park website.

Packaging
The outer packaging is a simple, sleek black box with the trademark logo in front. The lips crayons contain 2.7 grams of product. I like that you can clearly see the shade name on the crayons along with the ability to twist up more product when necessary.

Scent
There is a distinct rose scent which reminds me of a Crabtree & Evelyn body lotion I used to use back in the day. If there's going to be a scent I prefer a fruity one but, luckily, I don't mind the way these lip crayons smell. There's also a slight taste when you first apply the product but it quickly goes away.

Texture/Consistency
Sugar Tint feels extremely comfortable on the lips as it is creamy and moisturizing. No exfoliation or lip balm beforehand is necessary unless you're suffering from excessively dry lips. In fact, the crayon feels more like a lip balm with a little more shine. Flash Red is a different story. I had to put a lip balm underneath before application because it emphasized lines on my lips. It also applied patchy and unevenly.

My Thoughts
I can't speak for the pigmentation of the other shades in the line so I'm going off the two I currently have. I have some color to my lips and Sugar Tint does not show even after building up the product. It's supposed to have color changing properties with the color intensifying with each layer you apply. I've read that some people see a light pink, rosy shade. This may be true if you're lips are on the paler side, not the case for me. The shiny finish goes away after 45 minutes or so. My lips start to feel a little dry after the 2-3 hour mark. Honestly, I get the same look and finish with the Re:cipe By Nature Ice Cream Swing Gloss in Very Lovely.
On Left-Sugar TInt, On Right-Re:cipe Ice Cream Gloss
Flash Red is much more pigmented than Sugar Tint. I'm not sure why the formula is different from Sugar Tint but I wish it offered the same amount of hydration. The wear time is much longer, around 4-5 hours, but I find myself reaching for lip balm quite often during that time. I don't like how the product wears off once the color starts to fade. I'm left with a ring around the outer edge of my lips with hardly any color on the inside. The way I've been making Flash Red work is to go for a gradient lip and then dab gloss over my lips.

FINAL THOUGHTS
There are two shades I still want to try, Watermelon and Grape Tint. But, based on the two I purchased, I'm pretty disappointed in the lip crayons. I had high expectations for them because I've seen Son Dae Sik and Park Dae Yun work their magic on Get It Beauty and completely transform faces. Also, I watched My Love From The Star and Sugar Tint and Flash Red looked amazing on Jun Ji Hyun.

I'm almost convinced they used another lip product on top of or underneath the lip crayons to achieve such a pretty and shiny look. I do like how moisturizing Sugar Tint is but there's no color. On the other hand, Flash Red is pigmented but there's not enough moisture. Personally I would save money and pass on the two shades I reviewed.

I purchased the Son & Park Skin Fit Foundation with the same order so I'm hoping I'll have more luck with the foundation. Comment below if you'd like to see a review of it. Make sure to follow me on Twitter and Facebook for updates.
