Paula's Choice Resist Hyaluronic Acid Booster Review

A few weeks ago I received a few sample sized Hyaluronic Acid Boosters (0.12 oz) from Paula's Choice. *Disclaimer: I received items from Paula's Choice as a member of BzzAgent in exchange for my honest opinion and review. I was not compensated in any other form.

This is the first product I've tried from the brand. They have products that cater towards many skincare concerns like wrinkles, acne, rosacea, and large pores. The founder, Paula Begoun, had struggled with acne and eczema in the past and decided to use her years of research on skincare ingredients to create her own line, Paula's Choice. She claims "all my products are 100% guaranteed."

Product Description: A liqui-gel treatment with a specialized mix of hyaluronic acid plus other key repairing ingredients which work immediately to visibly plump skin and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. Also boosts the hydration and anti-aging benefits of any moisturizer or serum to prevent moisture loss and reinforce skin's barrier function. Suitable for all skin types, including breakout prone skin.

Price: Full size (0.67 oz) $45, Trial size (0.12 oz) $9

How to use: Apply once or twice daily after cleansing, toning, and exfoliating. Add 2-3 drops to your favorite serum or moisturizer. May also be used alone; may be applied to the under eye area. For daytime follow with a sunscreen rated SPF 25 or greater.

Packaging: The packaging itself is very simple with the booster in a dropper bottle. I've read reviews where people have complained about the dropper. I agree with them about the difficulty in getting the product out of the bottle.

Scent: Claims to be 100% fragrance free but there is a very faint plastic scent. It's only noticeable when you place your nose right up to the product.

Consistency: This stuff is thick and I mean THICK. I was expecting something a bit watery. This is also the reason why the booster is difficult to place into the dropper and dispense on to my hand. It spreads out easily enough but leaves a sticky feeling.

Some people use hyaluronic acid expecting moisturizing effects and have an opposite reaction. It can cause skin to feel tighter and drier. Apparently, if you're using a moisturizer with hyaluronic acid you have to be careful. In very dry climates, it may actually start to pull out moisture from the deeper layers of your skin since it's can't draw moisture from the environment. Also, you can have a reaction to the ingredient so make sure to do a patch test first on your arm or hand.

My Thoughts: Currently my skin type is pretty darn oily, although I'm not nearly as acne prone as I was six months ago. I was a little hesitant about trying this because the last thing I need is more hydration on my face. I tried the product in a variety of ways: mixed in with my serum, eye cream, foundation, moisturizer, (did not like that) and just the booster alone. In the end, it worked best on the under eye area in combination with my eye cream. I'm not a fan of products that leave my face sticky, especially in the summer. This was my issue with the Benton Snail Bee Steam Cream. My face appeared greasier than usual but, thankfully, it didn't break me out. While I appreciate the benefits of a product like this, it did not work for my current skin type and I didn't notice much of a difference in fine lines. It's quite expensive at $45 and I don't see myself purchasing this. I might try this again in the fall/winter seasons when my skin is more on the normal-combination side. Those of you with a normal or normal-dry skin type might enjoy this Hyaluronic Acid Booster. I'd avoid this if you have straight up oily or dry skin.

Rating: 5/10
