NYX Butter Gloss Review

I've said this before, but I'm not a fan of lip gloss and the stickiness it brings along with it. I always seem to have hair sticking to my lips whenever I try to wear a gloss. BUT, I've found a gloss I'm obsessed with, the NYX Butter glosses. There's a lot of hype surrounding these and rightfully so. I currently own 8 out of the 22 shades, which may seem excessive, but I truly do love these!

Product Description
A buttery lip gloss with a sweet scent that provides sheer to medium coverage on your lips without that sticky feeling. Provides nourishment with a flush of color on your lips giving you the perfect pout.

How to use
Apply on lips with the applicator included alone or over your favorite lipstick making your lips appear more voluptuous.

Price
0.27 oz for $4.99
You can find the butter glosses virtually everywhere these days at CVS, Harmon, Target, Drugstore.com, Amazon, and Ulta. I recommend purchasing them from Ulta since they frequently have a buy 1, get 1 50% off sale on NYX products.

Ingredients
Mineral Oil, Polybutene, Diisostearyl Malate, Beeswax, Ceresin, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Polyethylene, Sorbitan, Sesquioleate, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxide Black (CI 77499), Iron Oxide Red (CI 77491), Iron Oxide Yellow (CI 77492), Manganese Violet (CI 77742), D&C Red 6 Na Salt (CI 15850), D&C Red 7 Ca Lake (CI 15850), D&C Red 28 Al Lake (CI 45410), FD&C Yellow 6 Al Lake (CI 15985:1), FD&C Yellow 5 Al Lake (CI 19140:1)

Packaging
The glosses come in a sturdy, opaque, color coded packaging. This is particularly helpful when you're in a hurry since you don't have to fumble through your makeup collection to find the shade you want. There's a sponge tip doe foot applicator to apply the gloss.

Scent
These smell and taste like a vanilla sugar cookie. Typically I can't stand the scent of vanilla but I don't seem to mind when it reminds me of a cookie. Other people have described the glosses as having a cake batter smell. In any case, it's a product that reminds you of dessert especially since the gloss names are all dessert related, yum!

Consistency
It has a creamy and buttery finish with no shimmer or glitter and gives a moisturizing finish. They are slightly tacky which gives the glosses some grip on the lips to increase product longevity.

My Thoughts
The butter glosses come in an assortment of shades ranging from neutrals, to pinks, to browns, peaches, oranges, and reds. The pigmentation is true to the product description with a sheer to medium coverage depending on the shade you select. I would go with the brighter, darker shades like Sugar Cookie and Cherry Pie if you're lips are more pigmented or want something with more color payoff. (If you want something bolder, NYX has come out with the Intense Butter Glosses). These melt on your lips providing color, hydration, and a glossy shine. They're lightweight and incredibly comfortable to wear. Don't expect a lengthy wear time since they are glosses after all. I got about 1-2 hours with the lighter shades and maybe 3 for the brighter ones.

The shades I currently have are:
Eclair (pink)
Creme Brulee (natural)
Tiramisu (brown)
Maple Blondie (deep peach)
Apple Strudel (peach)
Peaches and Cream (pink coral)
Sugar Cookie (bright fuchsia)
Cherry Pie (red)
Eclair, Creme Brulee, Tiramisu, Maple Blondie, Apple Strudel, Peaches and Cream, Sugar Cookie, Cherry Pie

Personally, I prefer the lighter shades like Eclair, Tiramisu, and Creme Brulee over a lipstick since they are quite sheer over my pigmented lips. My favorite shades are Sugar Cookie and Apple Strudel. I do want to purchase Praline (deep nude), Raspberry Tart (violet), and Red Velvet (deep red) at some point in the future but I'm going to practice a little self restraint and wait until I finish a lip product or two.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend and thanks for stopping by,
Jennifer
