Memebox Pony Shine Easy Glam Eyeshadow 1 Palette Review

Pony is a self-taught makeup artist who has been gaining quite a bit of attention recently as CL's (from the group 2NE1) makeup artist. She has a large following on both Instagram and YouTube. She personally selected 8 must have shades for a Korean eye makeup style in her first collaboration product with Memebox. Pony, in conjunction with Memebox, has released a new 2.0 version of the Shine Easy Glam Eyeshadow Palette with an improved formula and better packaging. Unfortunately, I did not purchase the first version of the palette so I will not be able to make comparisons or contrasts between the two palettes. This is a review of version 2.0.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Shine Easy Glam Palette features 8 neutral mattes and shimmers that add a hint of glamour to your eyes in the most natural and flattering way with formula and colors designed by Pony. Formulated with nourishing oils, the shadows effortlessly adhere to skin without creasing or flaking.

PRICE
I purchased the palette when it first launched on the site, October 15, for a special price, $15. It is currently $30 but the price can fluctuate if there is an ongoing promotion on the site.
PACKAGING
The palette is housed in a sleek, shiny, and easy to open magnetic packaging. I'm not sure how sturdy it is to travel with in a checked bag. I did travel with the palette this past week but I carried it in my purse. I've had a few "sturdy" looking makeup items break or crack in my suitcase so I'm extra cautious with palettes and powder compacts. The palette is quite compact, about 2 3/4 x 5 inches. The shade names are written on a plastic insert which you can lay on top of the frosted mirror when using the shadows. Each eyeshadow pan is roughly 1 x 1 inch, supposedly bigger than the first version.
Hello! That's me in the frosted mirror reflection.
CONSISTENCY/TEXTURE
When first swatching these shadows, I was disappointed by the quality. Sometimes I forget that a swatch is not indicative of how they actually apply and look on the eyes which was the case for me. I find the shadows to be hard to work with and patchy when you swatch them on your arm. On the eyes, they are a bit more pigmented and a little easier to blend and work with. The bottom four shadows are smoother and creamier than the top four but all are a bit on the chalky side.

MY THOUGHTS
One thing I like about this Pony palette is the combination of basic neutral shades. There are many looks you can create with this for an everyday look. You can use all mattes, or a mixture of the matte/shimmer shades, or all shimmers. You can also contour with some of the shades demonstrated in Pony's video.
The pigmentation on this palette is a little inconsistent. You will need a primer under these shadows to help with color payoff and the wear time. Easy Base, Easy Shadow, and Shine Rosegold are not pigmented. It took 5-6 swipes to get any sort of color payoff on the swatches below. Shine Gold is a little better but you still need to swipe the shadow a few times to get a good amount of color on the eyes. As I mentioned earlier, the bottom row of shadows are extremely pigmented compared to the others. If you're frequently short on time, this may not be a palette you'd reach for often since you have to build up or blend certain shadows well and then clean up the fallout. My favorite shades are Easy Shadow, Easy Brown, and Glam Cocoa.
From left to right: Easy Base, Easy Shadow, Shine Rosegold, and Shine Gold
Easy Base: A matte cream/white that serves best as a base or highlight. Almost NO pigmentation.
Easy Shadow: A very light brown shadow.
Shine Rosegold: A shimmery, pink gold.
Shine Gold: Gold shimmers with orange.
From left to right: Easy Brown, Easy Charcoal, Glam Espresso, and Glam Cocoa
Easy Brown: A matte brown on the olive side.
Easy Charcoal: A matte dark brown. Not sure why it's called "charcoal."
Glam Espresso: A shimmery purple brown.
Glam Cocoa: A shimmery brownish orange.

I also received a deluxe sized sample of the I'm Lip and Eye Remover which was a nice little surprise. I haven't had the opportunity to test it out since I rarely use an eye makeup remover. An oil cleanser followed by a foam cleanser is sufficient enough to remove all of my makeup.

FINAL THOUGHTS
I'm kind of on the fence about recommending this palette. While I am enjoying the palette, there are some minor issues with it. If you factor in the price, 8 shadows for $30, it is decently priced. It puts the palette at a slightly higher price point than the drugstore. This is supposed to have an improved formula and more pigmentation so I'm wondering just how bad the original palettes were. Overall this is a pretty good neutrals palette great for creating a day to day look but the shadows are not of the highest quality.
