Time out: Freeman Facial Masks

I didn't realize that Freeman sold so many products, everything from body to hair products. I remember using the masks in college with friends but never tried anything else from the company. Apparently they've been around since 1976 and have more than 75 products to choose from!

Lately, I've really incorporated facial masks into my routine. I prefer sheet masks over the wash off ones, purely out of laziness, because of that extra step of washing off the mask. A while back Ulta had some deal on Freeman masks with buy 1, get 1 50% off. The masks are $3.99 for 6oz. I grabbed 4 of them: charcoal and black sugar, avocado and oatmeal, mint & lemon, and the pineapple facial enzyme mask. This won't be as comprehensive of a review as I'd like since I only have 4 and there are 7 more in the line.

Pineapple Facial Enzyme Mask
Product Description: This enzyme activated exfoliating mask revitalizes and revives your most radiant skin. Two-in-one exfoliating mask with pineapple extract and exfoliating AHAs
clear away dulling skin cells and stimulate skin renewal. Skin is revived and refreshed. Perfect for normal to combination skin.
I'm not crazy about polyethylene being the third ingredient in this mask. What is it? Well, it's basically plastic that's commonly used in packaging, things like plastic bags and containers including bottles. The mask does have bromelain in it which is helpful for breaking down dead, dry surface skin cells which leads to softer, smoother skin. I love the scent of this; it's a sweet, fruity smell. While the mask offers a gentle exfoliation and gives me a reason to massage my face, I don't really think it gave me any amazing results. Sure my skin did feel a little softer and smoother but moisturizers offers the same results. Meh, I wouldn't repurchase this even if it's only $3.99.

Mint & Lemon Facial Clay Mask
Product description: This lemony cool clay mask delivers relief from inflammation caused by breakouts. Clays absorb oils to minimize shine and large pores. Mint and Lemon cool and refresh. Perfect for breakout prone and oily skin.
This is probably better for me to use in the spring/summer when I have oilier skin. For now, I just use it on my nose, chin, and other areas where I'm breaking out. This mask has a light, minty fragrance and contains ingredients like clay and lemon which are good for clearing up skin. I like that it has a cooling effect on the skin when you first apply it and it does seem to calm my acne while getting rid of some redness. However, I haven't noticed any minimizing of the pores or improvements with blackheads on my nose. I'm on the fence about repurchasing this in the future.

Avocado & Oatmeal Facial Clay Mask
Product description: Nourish and purify with one amazing mask! Rich clays dive deep to purge dirt and oils from pores. Nutrient rich vitamin E, avocado, and oatmeal moisturize for lasting skin softness. Skin looks and feels squeaky clean and is soft to the touch. Perfect for normal to combination skin.
Okay, this mask is AMAZEBALLS! That's not really a word but you get my drift. Call me crazy but why do I catch a whiff of baby powder? The scent is interesting but I'm willing to overlook it with the overall results. It feels incredibly soothing once on the skin and clears up my pores. This does a better job with pores than the mint & lemon mask. My skin is left glowing, nourished, and super soft afterwards. This is my absolute favorite of the four masks I have.

Charcoal & Black Sugar Facial Polishing Mask
Product description: Pollution...debris...it's a wonder skin can breathe! This unique mask and scrub works double time to detox skin. First naturally purifying activated charcoal helps absorb oils and impurities without over-drying. Then black sugar helps exfoliate away dulling skin cells for softness and clarity. Perfect for all skin types.
This was an Allure magazine 2013 Best of Beauty Award winner so I was curious about it. The pollution and debris part in the description was also another reason. Living in NYC is one big cloud of smoke and pollution so who knows what I'm exposing my face/body to. I'm not sure how to describe the scent but it's a pleasant, light one. This is a good scrub and the granules are on the larger side. If you have sensitive skin this might be too harsh for you and not your cup of tea. It's a little messy to put on but the results are worth it. I may give this a whirl with the bottoms of my feet and on my back to see how it works. Anyway, a good solid product and one which I will continue to use in the future.

                                                                   FINAL THOUGHTS
I give the Freeman masks a big thumbs up. In general, these are good quality masks and you can't beat the price. If you're on a budget or a college student, these are perfect to have in your beauty closet. The only one I did not like was the pineapple enzyme mask but there are so many others in the line to try.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
Jennifer
